Work With Me

Ready to take the first step towards improving your bariatric nutrition, health, and wellness?  Let’s work together to identify potential road blocks that may be keeping you from reaching your weight loss or maintenance goals.

Hello and congratulations for taking the first step in improving your bariatric health, wellness and nutrition. Whether you are preparing yourself for bariatric surgery or have already had surgery and are experiencing “stalls” in your weight loss, weight regain or have not yet achieved your weight loss goal, you have come to the right place!

My name is Lori. I’m a Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), and a twelve year Roux-en-y (RNY) veteran having lost 160 pounds.  My background includes 18 years of clinical education and twelve years of personal experience in bariatric nutrition acquired as a lost and struggling weight loss surgery patient. I have experienced numerous surgery related complications throughout this long and difficult process which you can read about all that here. But it was through these same health challenges related to my depleted, post surgical nutritional status and poor food choices I was making (mostly medically recommended!) that I learned just how critically important it is to improve our nutrition by eating a balanced, real and whole foods diet.  I have had to learn the hard way, so I can help you learn how better to support your body through this challenging and exciting journey while avoiding many of the pitfalls found along the way.

I struggled to achieve my weight loss, and I am committed to maintaining it through a nutritious, real foods approach. Through my personal experience and expertise I can help you acquire the proper knowledge and practical tools to help you reach your optimal bariatric health and weight loss goals for years to come.  What could be more worth the effort?

What can you expect from my services?

The first thing you can expect from me is compassion. I truly care and want to help teach you how to navigate through this exciting yet sometimes frustrating and disappointing journey. You will never be judged for what you weigh or for what you eat. This is why I’m here,to teach and guide you in a new direction.

Portion sizes, food choices and the quality of the food we eat, without a doubt have a huge part in this, but it goes deeper than just eating the fat-free, artificial sugar ladened, multiple protein shake filled bariatric diet or standard American diet that each one of us has fallen victim too! I approach bariatric health and nutrition with a personalized look at you was a whole person which includes not only food and nutrition but lifestyle factors as well, like stress, sleep and any current or chronic health problems. In my opinion, all of this information has a direct impact on health and the ability to achieve health.

Should you decide this is a service that you can benefit and learn from, you will receive an email from me with the required forms/documents attached. You will be asked to fill out a medical intake form, and a 4 day food journal (via computer) being as detailed and honest as you possibly can. Once completed, email the information back to me. I will review everything and gather data from the information you have provided* not only to identify what may be slowing your progress but I will make personalized food/nutrition recommendations,”swapping” this for that recommendations, food brand “swaps” and occasionally supplement recommendations to add to your current bariatric vitamins and minerals.**

I will email your personalized report back to you within five days with my suggestions and recommendations along with available appointment times to set up a 30 minute telephone appointment*** to review my recommendations and findings and answer any questions you may have.

What you will NOT get from this service:

This is not a drop 2 dress sizes, lose weight in _X_ days, magical pouch/sleeve shrinking nutrition service. I develop sustainable, personalized, nutritional strategies based on eating real foods first and then looking into supplementing, if warranted, to support your bariatric needs with a wide variety of available options. Through your commitment, effort and some patience, you can improve your health, feel better and achieve your weight loss goals over time in a healthy and sustainable way.

*ALL of your information will be kept 100% private and confidential.

**Always check with your medical provider and bariatric team first before incorporating these supplements

***Please set up this appointment AFTER you have reviewed all of the documents so we can discuss the findings.

I’m Lori. I’ve been a Registered Nurse for fifteen years and a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, with a passion for learning about holistic nutrition with a focus for bariatric patients. I love to be in the kitchen cooking and baking with foods that help me to stay healthy and maintain my 155 pound weight loss. I started out as an overweight child and eventually dieted myself up to a 283 pound, morbidly obese adult with a growing list of health problems.
